In 2385 Starfleet’s budget oversight committee formed a working group to look at cost cutting measures that could be implemented across the board. This is what has come to be known as the Total Ownership Cost Reduction Imperative, and has been ordered to be implemented in all aspects of Starfleet operations. As such, Starfleet Logistics Command has actively pursued the development of the next generation of transport craft. A two year research and development program was initiated and carried out at both the Utopia Planitia and Beta Antares Ship Yards. The end result of this program was what has been named the Cerberus Transport System…two craft of differing size that both utilized the same Module system, and also integrated into a starship and ground vehicle transport system as well.


The two craft that form the system are the Titan and Polaris Transports. The two craft both utilize the same Module system. The Polaris has the ability to transport a 2 Standard Modules, 1 Extended Module, or 1 Vehicle Module.

The Transports

As stated above, the system is comprised of 2 separate craft. Only the larger starships would be assigned both craft. The beauty of this system is that, with the exception of the oversize Modules, any craft from any ship could pick up a Module left by another. The logistical implications of this system are simply incredible, as it simplifies the entire process of cargo and supply management.

Both transports feature a similar Module area that is open on all four sides, with a 1 meter thick framing system. Modules are loaded from overhead. The tops of the frames have 1.5 meter flaps that open on all four sides. The bottom features 2 meter flaps, and the rear has 1 meter panels all around, with the exception of the bottom which only has a small 0.3 meter lip. This is so that the Modules may be opened for loading/unloading without their removal. Each Module features a retractable ramp. The Modules themselves are attached to the ships via an adaptable/expandable rail system that allows the transport to hover and offload Modules using a small tractor beam system at destination if required. Modules may be accessed from the transport, as well as Module to Module access through sealable ports.

The Module sizes are as follows:
Mini Module: Half Space
• Length: 3 Meters
• Width: 2.5 Meters

Standard Module:
• Length: 6 Meters
• Width: 2.5 Meters

Extended Module:
• Length: 6 Meters
• Width : 5 Meters

Vehicle Module:
• Length: 9/14 Meters (Hercules vehicle or trailer requires an extra-long container or extension)
• Width: 4 Meters

Oversize Modules vary in dimensions, some even filling the entire bay. All Modules are 5 meters in Height. A comprehensive list of available Modules will be listed later in this report.

The Modules

The heart of the Cerberus Transport System is the many Modules that make up the transport’s manifest. The simple beauty of this system is that even given a situation where a Module had to be custom built for an application; any ship in the system could recover or transport it. The following is a list of the more common Modules.

• Each Vehicle Module contains jump seats for vehicle personnel to utilize during deployment
• Vehicle Module may be configured as a portable repair station
